CIS Case Study

Geoff Heron (who heads up our Cardiff office) undertook a CIS review for a large established regional construction firm. In the two days Geoff and his team spent on site, a number of significant administrative issues were identified in the gathering and recording of the CIS data.  

We were able to provide our client with the necessary tools to update, streamline and strengthen their systems. This ensured that they “exceeded” the basic legislative requirements of the Inland Revenue and as an added benefit freed up valuable administrative and management time and resource.

Whilst in the course of the review there were no “tax loss” issues identified, Geoff did identify that the company had declared on forms P11D a large number of vans. These vans were not contractually available for private use nor in practice were the employees allowed to do so (one employee in the past had actually been sacked for doing so!).

As a result, Geoff was able to secure tax refunds for the relevant employees and a Class 1A National Insurance refund for the company – this more than covered our fee!
